Project objectives (Purpose of the study)

To automate the railway crossing operations in order to reduce the head-on collision between the trains and the vehicles in unmanned railway junctions.
Research questions
  • How often do the cars get locked in the tracks and eventually get crushed by the oncoming trains at the unmanned cross points?
  • How many places along the railway are not manned
  • How are the cars and the train controlled at the unmanned?
  • What is the present technology used in track switching?
  • Are there enough audible and visual warning signals at the railway crossing?
